Rare Book Sale

CAMDEN, NJ -- On Friday, May 30, and Sunday, June 1, the Camden County Historical Society hosts its annual Rare & Used Book Sale from 10 AM to 2 PM at 1900 Park Boulevard, just off Haddon Avenue behind Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center. Open to collectors, dealers and the general public; prices start as low as $5, with most books under $100.

All proceeds benefit the preservation of material in the Society's library. With more than 20,000 books, newspapers, pamphlets, maps, deeds, diaries, photographs, illustrations, genealogical material and business records stretching back three centuries, the CCHS library is THE single largest collection of Camden County historical records.

You'll find histories of Camden, Gloucester and Salem Counties, including Prowell's 1886 History of Camden County. Genealogical works include a collection of Old Gloucester County Births, Deaths and Marriages from 1679-1800.

Works by former presidents include Woodrow Wilson's George Washington; the Collected Works of Theodore Roosevelt, including Rough Riders and Winning of the West; and Notes on the State of Virginia with an Appendix Relative to the Murder of Logan's Family by Thomas Jefferson.

Maps for sale include Camden County maps; an 1860 Map of Philadelphia and Vicinity; schoolroom-style maps of the USA; topographical maps; a map of World War II fronts and many others.

You'll find unusual books like The Smithsonian Collection of Newspaper Comics for just $15. Philadelphia botanist John Bartram's Diary of a Journey Through the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida, at $150, may be the perfect gift for your favorite gardener. A book on The Traditions, Origin and Early History of Freemasonry sells for $75. Then there's the very rare Blackstone's Law Tract in Two Volumes for $1,500.

The Rare & Used Book Sale is conducted on a first-come, first-served basis; cash, checks and credit cards accepted. For more information, please call CCHS at (856) 964-3333.
