For all its problems, Camden is an area of great potential, said Linda R. Gentry, the new executive director of the Camden County Historical Society.

She replaces the late Judith Snyder, who died suddenly in October.
'Chart our way'
"The Society, as well as the city and county around it, are in a period of transition and we are very gratified to have someone like Ms. Gentry onboard to help us chart our way forward," said Society president Richard Pillatt.
At the Trenton headquarters of the League of Women Voters, Ms. Gentry managed daily operations, fundraising and strategic planning. She also oversaw the renovation of "The Pride of Lions," the historic 1885 building in the center of Trenton's "Roebling's Row" that serves as the League's headquarters. The Romanesque Revival structure was originally put up by the Roebling family, a clan of engineers who built the Brooklyn Bridge and ran a large steel cable factory in Trenton.
'A real vibrance'
"I think nonprofits in general, and historical societies in particular, face very complex problems today," said Ms. Gentry, who lives in Collingswood. "This job is a big challenge -- but in an arena of great opportunity. Camden has a lot of infrastructure development underway and more in the pipeline. For all its problems, there's a real vibrance here and I think the Historical Society is well positioned to both contribute to and benefit from the city's economic revival."
"After all," she said, "the long and colorful history of this river port town is one of its greatest assets and I think the Historical Society can tell that story to the world in a very authentic and compelling way."
Camden Co. CPAC
Prior to the League of Women Voters, Ms. Gentry served as the director of planning and resource development at the Camden County Community Planning and Advocacy Council (CPAC), an independent non-profit organization that plans, advocates and coordinates the County's human services programs.
