a Tea and Tour of historic Pomona Hall on Wednesday, October 16, at noon.

The event is sponsored by the Mary Cooper Gardeners, a volunteer group of the Camden County Historical Society focused on the practice, lore and history of colonial homekeeping.

Historic mansion
Pomona Hall was home to Camden's Cooper family throughout the 18th century. Begun as a small wood-framed house in 1718, Pomona Hall evolved into a luxurious mansion by 1788 when it was the home of Marmaduke Cooper, one of the area's most prosperous Quaker businessmen. It has been declared "the finest example of a Georgian-style plantation house in New Jersey."

Today, restored to how it would have looked in its heyday just after the American Revolution, the home provides visitors with a vivid sense of daily life in the eighteenth century.

An assortment of traditional tea sandwiches, tempting desserts and hot and cold beverages will be served by costumed interpreters. An in-depth guided tour follows the tea.

Reservation deadline: Oct. 9
Price for the Pomona Hall Tea and Tour is $15.00. Seating is limited. For reservations, please call (856) 854-2785 or e-mail tea@cchsnj.com no later than Wednesday, October 9. A $5.00 nonrefundable deposit is required for each reservation.

The Camden County Historical Society is located just outside Collingswood in residential Parkside, behind Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, at Park Boulevard and Euclid Avenue.
